You Don’t Need to Keep Up With Anyone
There’s a quiet kind of pressure that exists now that didn’t used to.
It’s not loud. No one is directly telling you to spend money you don’t have. But it’s there. In the cars people drive, the homes they post, the vacations, and the “casual” Target hauls that somehow total $400.
And if you’re not careful, you start to feel behind.
Let me say this clearly.
You are not behind. You are just being marketed to.
You do not need:
A $100,000 SUV to prove you’re successful
A perfectly curated home to feel worthy
A closet full of “just in case” outfits
To upgrade your life every time someone else does
There is nothing wrong with:
Living within your means
Driving your paid-off car
Saying “that’s not in my budget right now”
Building slowly, quietly, and intentionally
That’s where peace lives.
Because the truth is, a lot of what you’re comparing yourself to is financed.
Debt is normal now. Overspending is normalized. Living beyond your means almost feels expected.
But that doesn’t mean it’s smart.
And it definitely doesn’t mean you have to participate.
There is something deeply underrated about a simple, stable life.
A life where:
Your bills are paid
Your stress is lower
You’re not constantly chasing the next thing
That doesn’t make you boring.
It makes you grounded.
So if you needed permission today, here it is.
You CAN opt out.
You can build a life that actually feels good instead of one that just looks good.
And one day, you’ll realize you were never behind.
You were just doing it differently.
